Grandmothers of May Square (edited)

ABDUCTED CHILDREN IN ARGENTINA

When in 1976, the Armed Forces seized control of the government of Argentina, they began to implement a systematic plan of destruction and of violation of the most fundamental human rights.

In this manner they caused 30.000 persons to disappear. Persons of all ages, from the most diverse social backgrounds. Among the disappeared there are hundreds of children who were kidnapped along with their parents or who were born in the clandestine detention centers where their pregnant mothers had been taken.

Many of the children were registered as children of members of the repressive forces; others were abandoned while others were left in institutions as children whose identity was unknown. In this way many children disappeared, their identities destroyed, depriving them of their rights, freedom and natural families....

Grandmothers of May Square is a civil non governmental organization which is not affiliated to any political party. Its aim is to locate the children who disappeared as a result of the political repressive methodology implemented by the military dictatorship and to restore them to their legitimate families, and to create the conditions which will guarantee that this terrible violation of the children's rights will never occur again, demanding punishment for all of those responsible for the repression.

We work for our children and for all of the children of future generations in the world, in order to preserve their identity, their roots and their history, the fundamental basis for human dignity.

With the aim of localizing the disappeared children the Grandmothers of May Square work in four levels: We make denunciations and claims to national as well as international government authorities, we present information to the Justice Department, we solicit cooperation from the people in general, and we realize inquiries or personal investigations.

In 20 years of uninterrupted search we have been able to locate 58 disappeared children, out of which 8 had been assassinated. Of the rest, 31 are living with their true families and the others in close contact with their grandparents, in the process of adaptation, having been recovered their true identities and the true story of their lives....Each and every one of the kids have an open case in the Justice Department, to which new denunciations are received constantly. These will constitute elements of proof that will determine the true identity of the kids as well as that of the people responsible of their kidnappings and illegal possession...In order to preserve for the future the data obtained from the blood tests used in identifying the children, a genetic data bank has been created by National law N 23.511, where the genetic histories of all the families whose children have been abducted will be stored...

ALL YOUNGSTERS WITH DOUBTS ABOUT THEIR TRUE IDENTITY, COME TO US. WE WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU WITH LOVE IN ORDER TO HELP YOU.

WE CONTINUE IN THE SEARCH FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT WHERE WE CAN FIND THEM, WE WILL BE HERE WAITING FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION.

HELP US FIND THEM.
